  • Reward Good Web Design And Hard Work With PSPs and Games!

Hard WorkTime flies when you’re creating, modifying and uploading page after page of a massive website, eh? Reckon you can guess what I’ve been up to then? That’s right - I’ve been creating, inserting content into, modifying, inserting images into, accidentally over-writing, breaking, fixing and uploading page after page after page of an absolutely MASSIVE website. The site I’m referring to? Money4Students. It’s still under conscruction on the developer’s end but I’ve played my part.

I’ve come up with a new rule that from now on will apply to any massive projects I take on such as Money4Students. I must reward myself for my hard work! It’s not really a rule that I reckon I’ll live by without fail but under the current circumstances, and considering how long I’ve been working on Money4Students, a reward was in order upon seeing the end of the websites design and implementation.

My reward: Two imported Japanese PSP Slim & Lite’s (a blue one for myself and a purple one for my boyfriend) and £150 worth of games to go with them. It’s not everyday a girl can spend £400 on a pair of consoles and a heap of games - on a whim. I’m also guessing that not many girls get to say to their boyfriends “I just bought you a PSP. You now have a budget of £100 to spend on the games you want.” like I did. It really is a great feeling! In the end my boyfriend and I ended up with half a dozen games each including Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Lemmings, Patapon, Loco Roco, Dragoneers Aria, Innocent Life, Sega Megadrive Collection and a few more.

With that said, I must leave you now because I have to go and play Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core!

  • Copyright Infringement and Dealing With Content Thieves

    10th of May Update
After contacting Hilary Albutt of Indredible Software Solutions regarding her taking of my content, I received a nasty email in reply that contained threats of legal action against me. She believed that I had little proof that the content was mine and therefore decided to try and claim my work as her own. Following my reply to this email saying that she should be ashamed and pointing out that she cannot sue me for her taking of MY work, she promptly took down 500 words written by me. 33 still remain though I have decided not to pursue this matter any further. For the record, Hilary Albutt’s method of search engine optimization will result in temporary results only and your website is likely to be blacklisted in the future due to unprofessional, spamlike and frowned upon methods used by her and Incredible Software Solutions.

Once again I have fallen victim to having my website content stolen. I admit that it isn’t as severe as www.Smak4Art.com’s blatant copying of www.eSpyre.com but it’s still right up there. Should I see this most recent copyright infringement as a form of flattery? I fail to see how having something I worked hard on copied and pasted onto another website is supposed to make me feel good about myself.

What is worse is that the owner of the website in question is now claiming to own the content in the first place. They went from stating their website was hacked to saying it was a coincidence and that our writing styles were purely similar to the accusation of me stealing the content and threats of legal pursuit. They even went as far as to suggest I had no idea what SEO is and that’s it’s ridiculous I am offering that as one of my services.

  • Upstart Blogger + Infinite Critique

I have been a fan of Ashley Morgan’s adopted blog Upstart Blogger since it was owned and run by blogging upstart Robert Ellis. I am now an even bigger fan of Ashley Morgan because of his unending ambition and passion for online entrepreneurial success. He has certainly renewed my motivation to achieve my web related goals. Put simply, Ashley Morgan’s project, Upstart Blogger is a blog-based guide to creating, launching, maintaining, promoting and profiting from a successful blog - amongst other things - and I highly recommend it.

Part of the Upstart Blogger network of websites is new community blog Infinite Critique, which is a multiple author intelligent alternative to mainstream news and reviews blogs. I have been given a blogging position on Infinite Critique courtesy of Ashley Morgan and I made my first post earlier tonight: Through The Eyes of a Web Designer. My goal is to share my insight into web design, search engine optimization, the internet, technology and what it’s like to grow up as a girl in a more commonly male profession.

  • Free iPhones, Free iPods, Free Consoles - Oh My!

Imagine walking into a store, asking for a Playstation 3 and being charged nothing. I say walking into a store, but what I really mean is an ‘online store’ and you don’t exactly ‘walk’ into them, you ‘click’ right? Regardless, ‘freebie’ networks offering pricey incentives such as Free iPhones, Free iPods, Free PS3s and other free high-tech gadgets have been around for many years. So if they’re not new, why are they important enough to right about now? Well, we’ve suddenly discovered that they work. That’s right - you really can be a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii or other gadget for free. The system is simple enough and can be completed in 3 easy steps.

    • 1. Choose your free gift, sign up and complete an offer. Please note, to be eligible for your free gift, whether it’s a free iPhone or free PS3, you MUST complete an offer. Some offers are free, some cost money - but who’d complain about getting a PS3 for £5? I certainly wouldn’t.
    • 2. Refer some friends using the referral link given to you by the freebie network and get them to complete an offer just like you did. It’s simple enough. If you’ve ever promoted something before you’ll find it’s a lot easier to promote something like a free PS3 than trying to get someone to buy something.
    • 3. Once you have referred enough people, verify your ‘greens’ - these are people who have signed up and completed an offer - and wait for your free iPhone, free iPod, free PS3 or whichever free item you chose to arrive in the mail!

How is it possible for this to work? Simple, the freebie networks make money off your referrals. How do they do that? Advertisers pay the freebie networks to advertise their websites in the form of ‘offers’ which referrals complete. This is how the freebie networks can afford to send you your free item without it costing you anything - or costing only £5 if you completed one of the casino offers. Most of the money is made from people who sign up, refer a few people and then give up.
